About Server Training by State
Server Training by State is built by Sara McGregor-Okroi, a certified TIPS trainer who owns a bar and coffee shop and serves as a county commissioner in Sisseton, South Dakota.
Running a place that pours, and training the people who do, means constantly answering the same questions: Does this state require it? How long does a new hire have? When does my card expire? The answers are scattered across 51 agency websites and statutes. This site puts them in one place and links every fact to its official source.
How we research
- Official sources first: state alcohol agencies, statutes and administrative code.
- Cross-checked against the TIPS state list and the Responsibility.org position paper (data as of Jan 12, 2026). NIAAA's Alcohol Policy Information System is also a reference.
- If we can't confirm something, we say so instead of guessing, and we flag states where sources disagree.
Independence
We are not a state agency or a course provider. Some course links may become affiliate links; they never change which courses we list as approved. This is general information, not legal advice.
